As we enjoy the Sun and leisure of the season, there’s no better time than now to grab a good book and indulge in the magic of storytelling. Personally, have found that though Summer is filled with free time – it is the books that I can bring along & finish while out on an adventure, that call to me most. With that, I have compiled this small list of quick & easy (but oh so deep & awakening) reads for all of you wishing to journey into yourSelf & spirituality – whether outdoors in this heat, or cozy on your couch with the AC full-blast.
Here are my top 3 Summer reads that will have you seeking more & diving deeper into Self:
1.
The Celestine Prophecy – James Redfield
This book actually came into my life a few years ago, and though highly activating then – rereading it now has proven to be just as (if not more) powerful. The Celestine Prophecy is a book of Life in a sense. If ever you wished for a book that could illustrate core beliefs & insights drawn from ancient wisdom, is full of adventure, discovery and enlightenment – this is the book for you.
“…the basic stuff of the Universe, at its core, is looking like a kind of pure energy that is malleable to human intention and expectation in a way that defies our old mechanistic model of the universe–as though our expectation itself causes our energy to flow out into the world and affect other energy systems.”
It’s definitely one you thank the Universe again & again for placing into your path, awakening you and aiding on your journey towards innerstanding. (Also, check out the books that follow, “The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision” and “The Twelfth Insight“)
2.
The Prophet – Kahlil Gibran
A classic and one of my personal all-time favorites ever, The Prophet is a magical journey of a tale. This book is pure, spiritual, deep, and inspirational. I was first introduced to this book while at my fellowship with Peace Revolution in Thailand. I promised a good friend I would read it, and the next thing you know it was the first book that practically fell off a shelf and hit me on the head upon my search through a used book store a week later. Having read and reread this one a few times, I am grateful for all the wisdom it holds and that through its simplicity, the complexities of our world are brought up & washed away.
“…love one another, but make not a bond of love:
let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.”
This poetic masterpiece is truly just that; a must read – beyond measure, beyond time – for all. It left me speechless, wishing for more and yet so satisfied through its artistry and flow.
3.
The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
Popular amongst the masses, this story has become an all-time fave for many – and yet I still feel there are those who have yet to stumble upon this gem, so figured it should definitely make my list in a different way. The Alchemist tells the tale of following our dreams, listening to our heart and finding treasures far beyond the material that fill our Soul with truth, light & pure magic. And though a great read in itself, my personal Summer pick is this graphic novel edition which beautifully illustrates the story.
“It was the pure Language of the World. It required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time. What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. He was more certain of it than of anything in the world. He had been told by his parents and grandparents that he must fall in love and really know a person before becoming committed. But maybe people who felt that way had never learned the universal language. Because, when you know that language, it’s easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether it’s in the middle of the desert or in some great city. And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant. There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only. It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. Without such love, one’s dreams would have no meaning.”
This book is transformational, and whether a mysticism enthusiast, or simply wishing to find a good Soul inspiring book – it will leave you happy you chose to live within its pages and experience all it has to share. (Also, if graphic novels aren’t for you, highly recommend the original – “The Alchemist” of course as well.)
That wraps up our Summer reads for now, hope you all enjoy them as much as I have & do. Let me know what you think, or if you have any requests/suggestions – please leave them below in the comments and will be sure to go through them all and create new content just for you!
